The book is very short, easy to read, and simple so it can easily be read to children of varying ages. It’s a good conversation starter but I would also have liked a little content and direction to the next steps, further and deeper discussion about this important topic.
Love love loved this book. We were able to talk about racism in a way that our 8,6, and 5 year old understood. The discussion was simple, yet yielded some great conversation on how we can be good citizens in the community and support our friends. I can't wait to read additional titles.
The first book I got was 'a kids book about racism' which I read with my 8 yr old after she read it on her own and asked me to read it with her. She was clearly uncomfortable and didn’t want to ask a bunch of questions right now, BUT we did talk some while reading. The next day, she asked me more questions and have since had conversations about race and what's happening in our country for the last week. Small steps towards a big topic. More importantly, she knows the topic isn’t taboo.
It’s never too soon to talk about racism!
It’s an easy book for her to read on her own, but together it sparks conversation and that’s what matters. I'm excited about the other books!
These books are giving me the ability to talk with my kids about big and important ideas. I've always believed in telling kids the truth but sometimes lack the words to do so in an age appropriate way. But these books help me tackle them. Thanks for helping us start great conversations!
We definitely appreciate the One Book Box option, as it makes these books accessible at a lower price with free shipping. Our first book was about racism which is timely and perfect for our 6 and 4 year old boys. They enjoy reading it and it has started good conversations between us. Thank you!
